Looking Back on the Nov. 2nd 2021 Hybrid Chapter Meeting

Looking Back on the Nov. 2nd 2021 Hybrid Chapter Meeting

This week the Harmonizers meeting was entirely inside the Scottish Rite Temple and the chorus rotated between the auditorium and the cafeteria.  There were over 20 guys on Zoom too since some of them are likely quarantining.

After the warm up session conducted by associate director Tony Colosimo, artistic director Joe Cerutti welcome everyone to the meeting including some guys we have not seen in a while including Tyler Carpenter, Sam McFarland and Scott Beach.

Joe also had some important announcements about changes in the plans for this year’s holiday show.  It will not be at Schlesinger but instead there will be show performances at the Scottish Rite Temple in DC (NOTE this is not the place where we rehearse each week) at 2 pm and 6 pm on Sunday, Dec. 5th.  It will be a one-act show lasting about one hour.  There will be complimentary valet parking for both shows thanks to our friend and former AH Inc. community board member, Paul Dolinsky. At this point the plan is for singers to wear masks.  Stay tuned for any restrictions for the audience.

This change in location was prompted because of restrictions being imposed at Schlesinger which is a state owned property.

Joe also alerted members that the chorus will not wear the blue suits but will wear the colorful sweatshirts and white scarves, with black pants and shoes (specifics to be announced).

There is also the likelihood that we might do a show performance someplace in the City of Alexandria such as at Market Square or a Mall or other venue during the holiday season.

After all these show announcements, Joe worked on holiday music, and recorded a tribute from the Harmonizers with “A Place on the Risers for You” for Sandy Ulibarri and her family in honor of former Harmonizer, Bob, who died in mid-October in Seaford, DE.

Past Harmonizer president Dwain Chambers also died in Oct. He and his wife Connie lived in the Dixie District of the BHS where he was past district president and a long-time contest administrator on judging panels for our Society.

During this week’s meeting the chorus moved a couple times from the auditorium to the cafeteria as part of our Covid protocol.

The rest of the night included a sing-through of all of the songs for the show including the two songs that will each be performed by a different half of the chorus – “Fa La La” and “Text Me Merry Christmas.”

There was a call for soloist auditions for the show this week with auditions conducted by Tony

Our next  Harmonizer Tuesday meeting will be at 7 pm on Nov. 9th, 2021 at Scottish Rite   Temple on Braddock Rd. in Alexandria and will likely be a hybrid meeting again.

Until next time – editorjack!
